South Seattle Youth Pipeline to Success

South Seattle Youth Pipeline to Success, is a peer mentoring program for middle school and high school students. The high school students, provide tutoring and mentorship for middle school students while gaining leadership skills and learning more about Filipino history and community. The program also provides college/ young professional mentors for the high school students to help them navigate their options after high school and encourage and help them go to college.

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir is composed of students, from 6th-12th grade, living in the Puget Sound area. The program centers around creating a sense of community while helping students develop musicality and performance confidence. Rehearsals take place every Saturdays at 10 am in the Filipino Community Center. There are 10-20 youth involved in the Youth Choir.

Library and Reading Program

Anak (meaning “child”) is a program promoting literacy in elementary age youth. This project includes the library in the Filipino Community Center, which is a space open to all youth. This program is a partnership with the Sisterhood of Pi Nu Iota, who are currently organizing a Literacy Jamboree to be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 12 pm-4 pm to benefit FiLSTAR.

Computer Literacy Program

The FCC Computer Project is run by a group of 15 Filipino youth including high school and middle school students from three different Seattle schools. As a group, they have planned workshops to teach basic computer skills to the senior citizens in the Filipino community. The youth teachers have met for trainings and planning meetings on a weekly basis since November 2009 and now offer classes to the community. This program is in partnership with Washington Asian Pacific Islander Families Against Substance Abuse (WAPIFASA). The computer lab is open Monday and Thursday from 11 am-2 pm and classes are Monday evenings from 4-6 pm.
